Shiloh came to us early in February 2021. We knew he'd be a project, but the alternative was euthanasia at a local shelter. (Believe it or not, there's not a huge demand for a broken down 10 yr old dog.) Shiloh arrived at the shelter emaciated, with a body condition score low enough that his life was in jeopardy. His eyes were full of infection, and his teeth were not only heavy with tartar, some had been filed down. His skin was a mess, he tested high positive for heartworms, and had a urinary tract infection, to boot. At that point, one would have to seriously consider if it weren't a kindness to just let him meet his end humanely in the shelter. But, of all the ways he was broken, Shiloh's will to live was intact, as was the irrepressible joy so natural to many beagles. If Shiloh was willing to give it a go, so were we. If all we could buy him was a few months of being loved, then didn't he deserve at least that? The first week in his foster home, there was a downpour. Shiloh was let outside to potty, and when his foster returned several minutes later, she found him curled up in the soaking wet grass, asleep. She had fostered some hard luck cases in her 30 yrs of rescue, but this nearly brought Shiloh's foster to tears. He still had no expectations for a life that included basic shelter, much less, simple creature comforts. It's been a year, and not only did Shiloh's body heal, but he now accepts that good thing can happen for him and that he can choose to be comfortable. Although he is a senior, Shiloh possesses the typical beagle puppy personality and energy. This vintage hound had a very rough past, and had a lot to overcome, but he's ready to roll with a new family now!

Shiloh is neutered, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is current on heartworm preventative and flea preventative.

Our adoptions include a foster period of 4-6 weeks so that you can be sure that this pet is a good fit without any pressure, and we are available to answer any behavior or training questions during that time (and beyond, if you wish).

** Local adoptions preferred (within Greater New Orleans area and surrounding parishes). We do not ship animals, as a part of our adoption process is for the potential adopter(s) to meet the dog to assess if he/she is a match for the family.
