Hurricane Ida Evacuation Location (as of 9/3/21): Baker, LA
Sheena has blossomed a lot since she arrived in rescue a year ago, when at the time it was obvious she had been handled roughly. She no longer cowers around men and has been much better about adjusting to new environments. Sheena is looking to be an only dog and still only digs people, including a love for tiny humans. Maybe she finds the smaller version less threatening.
In any case, she should be in a home with a family of her own by now. But the hard knocks life has not let up for this newly 2 yr old girl who is just a young kiddo, herself. Shortly after her arrival, COVID lockdowns brought things to a near screeching halt, reducing her visibility to prespective adopters. A few months ago, Sheena's foster home suffered water damage, and Sheena had to be boarded. There she was assessed by a trainer, and it was confirmed she would be happier as an only dog.
Sheena was returning to a home environment in the next few weeks, but Hurricane Ida had other plans via a tree on the foster parent's roof. All of our foster families in the Greater New Orleans area have either no fence, have damage due to Ida, or are evacuated. Sheena has been in foster care for over a year through no fault of her own. And while this otherwise perfect gal has been stuck in rescue instead of her perfect forever home, she needs at least a new foster home with no other dogs.
Sheena recently had an emergency sleepover for a week when kennel cough was making it's way through daycares and this was the scoop: She was great but hates the vacuum. Loved the young boy and they were pals, unless he had a ball then she would "play with it beyond repair."
Sheena is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and has tested heartworm negative.
✔️fenced yard for fetch (not required)

To adopt: bit.ly/PASDogAdoptApp
Our adoptions include a foster period of 4-6 weeks so that you can be sure that this pet is a good fit without any pressure, and we are available to answer any behavior or training questions during that time (and beyond, if you wish).
Local adoptions preferred (within Greater New Orleans area and surrounding parishes). We do not ship animals, as a part of our adoption process is for the potential adopter(s) to meet the dog to assess if he/she is a match for the family.
