UPDATE: Jerry is now in fostercare with us!
He learned the doggy door in a matter of days, is housebroken, and a perfect gentleman. He gets along with the dogs in his foster home and fancies himself a lap dog at the teeny, tiny body weight of 50 lbs.
Jerry arrived at the local shelter in early April 2019. In that time, he has endured a period of a several months of extremely crowded conditions and at total of 7 months of being kenneled where he would sometimes go days without being walked. He was recently re-assessed behaviorally and did very well. This in itself is a testament to Jerry's personality and fortitude. Many dogs would not endure a protracted stay in a noisy and busy shelter without succumbing to the stress of it all. Jerry is the perfect mix of jogging /walking partner and couch companion.
Despite still testing behaviorally sound, a prolonged stay in a shelter is a quality of life issue, and Jerry is on borrowed time. So, he is joining us, and we hope that someone will give him the chance that he deserves, very soon so that he can get to the business of a happy and meaningful life shared with human companions. Below is Jerry's most recent bio from the shelter to give some insight into his personality.
Jerry is a sweet, happy-go-lucky and playful guy who is eager to please. He is good on a leash, knows "sit," and was quick to demonstrate his skill for catching treats mid-air when he first arrived at the shelter back in April. A volunteer husband/wife team recently brought Jerry for a day outing in October to give him a break from the shelter, and this is what they had to say: "Jerry is great in the car (staying in the back seat the whole time). He is still working on his method of actually getting into the car, and he does the most endearing crawling method to get in side. But by the end of our trip, he gained enough confidence and was almost able to jump in like pro! Jerry is intelligent and likes to interact with you in whatever form you'd like: sitting together while you pet him, racing each other for a ball, or playing fetch (a favorite game of his). He's the perfect companion and such a friendly guy!"
Jerry is current on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He is current on heartworm preventative and flea preventative.
Our adoptions include a foster period of 4-6 weeks so that you can be sure that this pet is a good fit without any pressure, and we are available to answer any behavior or training questions during that time (and beyond, if you wish).
Local adoptions preferred (within Greater New Orleans area and surrounding parishes). We do not ship animals, as a part of our adoption process is for the potential adopter(s) to meet the dog to assess if he/she is a match for the family.
